Artisan Hedgehog House

The new Fairtrade, handmade Artisan Hedgehog House has been designed to create a safe haven for hedgehogs in your garden. It features a sturdy, corrosion-resistant steel frame, with water-based sealant applied to the hessian lining to provide good water resistance. The integrated security tunnel protects from predators, giving hedgehogs somewhere they can escape to by retreating into the living quarters.

Our Artisan Hedgehog House provides an opportunity for women working in Bangladesh to earn a good income. The hedgehog house exterior is covered with woven seagrass that has been collected locally and skilfully hand-stitched to the frame. As the product is made from natural materials, the appearance may vary due to seasonal availability and environmental factors.

Each Artisan Hedgehog House is handmade using natural seagrass and recycled saris to the highest quality finish. The individual artisan workers choose the colourful recycled sari pattern around the entrance, making every Hedgehog House unique.

Purchasing our Fairtrade products helps both wildlife and people. In addition to giving your garden hedgehogs a home, you'll be supporting the artisan workers in Southern Bangladesh who make them, funding the survival of many women and their families in rural communities living in poverty.

Siting

Locate the Artisan Hedgehog House within some cover, out of the prevailing wind, preferably in an area with nearby vegetation. Pile leaves or foliage around the house for further camouflage and insulation. The house can be anchored for extra security using 2-4 tent pegs hooked over the metal frame and pushed into the ground.

Maintenance

All wildlife products should be checked annually for damage, loose elements, and cleanliness during the off-season. Make sure the house is not in use before an annual inspection.

Use

Not suitable for sick or rescued hedgehogs that require regular inspection. If feeding hedgehogs, always leave a bowl of fresh water out as well.
