Dan Rouse

Dan is a passionate presenter, conservationist and ornithologist from Swansea, Wales. Having grown up on the South Wales coastline, her life passion for coastal birds and wildfowl thrived and has shaped her life. Since these childhood years, Dan has gone on to be wildly respected in the birding and Welsh community as an advocate for ornithology, garden wildlife and encouraging others to be involved in birding.

She is currently a presenter on BBC Radio Wales’ Country Focus sharing wildlife stories and meeting inspirational people from around Wales.

Dan is also a published author having written How to attract birds to your garden with DK Publishing in 2020 followed by 'How to attract wildlife to your garden' in 2023 along with 'The Children's Book of BIRDWATCHING' the same year.

Dan is a huge advocate for garden wildlife and doing our bit to help the wildlife found within our area. The WildSpace Project have a passion for making nature accessible for all. Dan and the project also travels to festivals across the country showing how we can all get involved and care for the wildlife in our gardens. She also has a passion for making our own things and upcycling items to give them a new lease of life. In 2020, Dan alongside Tadorna Tours created the ‘Cymru Naturiol’ project, which aims to rewild and conserve species in South Wales. The project currently sees nest boxes installed and monitored for species such as Tawny Owl and Shelduck, it works seeks to work with landowners and farmers to create a space for birds on their land.

Whilst Dan’s career and primary interests are birds, and additional wildlife. She also has a huge love for fitness having been a kickboxer from the age of 7 and ending it at 21 due to injury, she reached black belt level and competing at world championships adding a number of medals and titles to her name. Her love for all things sci-fi and fantasy, in particular Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts, is huge throughout her home in Wales and often makes an appearance during talks especially with children!
