Big Garden Birdwatch 2024
It’s finally here, the moment that bird lovers up and down the UK have waited a year for! The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch returns this weekend!
What is the Big Garden Birdwatch?
The Big Garden Birdwatch is a huge citizen science project, led by the RSPB, to engage the public with nature on their own doorstep and collect data on the garden birds that we share our green spaces with. The RSPB ask that you spend just one hour between 26th and 28th January in your garden, looking out of the window, on your balcony or if you don’t have access to an outdoor space, from your local park. Simply count the birds that land near you, make a list and then submit that to the RSPB on their website.
Why?
We know that our nature is in crisis and we all need to do whatever we can to pull together to make a difference. By counting the birds and submitting your data, it will allow the RSPB to paint a picture of our garden bird populations and show us how they’re doing. From there, we can work out how best to approach the conservation of species across the UK.
