Our handmade bespoke wildlife products can take up to four weeks to build and deliver if we don't have them in stock.

Based on a tried and tested design principle innovated by the Vincent Wildlife Trust, this Pine Marten den is suitable both for resting/sleeping martens and also as a breeding den. Unlike some other designs, this structure is relatively light whilst maintaining internal structural integrity. Pine martens are particularly sensitive to sound disturbance and the thermal qualities of their dens. The 'all timber' internal box structure ensures that a resting marten remains warm and that sound transfer through the box walls is kept to a minimum.

Inspection / internal servicing is achieved through the front wall which can be released by removing the two bolts at the base and allowed to slide down. The internal wooden den section remains intact even when the front wall is lowered, ensuring no nesting material is lost during inspection.

The recycled farm plastic protective sheet on the roof (in woodland green) ensures maximum protection from rain and an ideal spot upon which martens may choose to leave scat (a useful monitoring sign).

The den is held in place using wire or rope through holes in the vertical spacer batons and around the tree to which the box is secured. Vertical batons ensure minimal sway of the box in strong winds.

Boxes should be sited approximately 4 metres from the ground on suitably sized trees or poles.
